THE APPLICATION FOR The 2020 cohort is NOW CLOSED.
East Coast Solidarity Summer (ECSS) is for youth-ish folks connected to South Asia/South Asian histories with an interest in learning together in a social justice-oriented and anti-oppressive space. This year we are departing from ECSS's past structure, and are inviting people to apply to our collective as cohort members. We have detailed ECSS's changes over the past 2 years, our vision for 2020, and our thought process behind it all in the document linked below. We recommend giving it a thorough read before applying!
We aim to start this cohort experience in mid-March, with biweekly engagements to learn together and monthly meetings to plan our culminating retreat. The retreat dates are July 1-5, 2020. We invite folks who are 18 years and older to apply, with no upper limit on age. We have historically been a youth-oriented space, and our current members range from age 20-30s. If you feel drawn to engage with this space, we encourage you to apply. Since this will be such a different experience from past iterations, we also welcome past organizers and participants to apply, but will give priority to those who have not yet been a part of ECSS.
We need to raise between $1000-2000 in order to put on the retreat (these funds will go towards food, supplies, transportation, etc). We do not want fundraising to be a barrier to participation for anyone, so there is no requirement to fundraise in order to be part of the cohort. However, if you do have access to affluent networks or family wealth, you will be expected to help fundraise.
If you have any questions, reach out to us on social media or [email protected].
